Your Ultimate Guide to the only entertainment items you'll ever need for your French Bulldog
You’ve come to the right place. From chew bones to ball launchers and squeaky to crinkle, we have spent thousands on entertainment for our Frenchies. I’m writing this to hopefully turn you onto some of the BEST entertainment items we’ve found.
In planning to share this list, I thought through these questions:
Do our Frenchies use it?
What happens when they do use it?
How long did it last?
Lastly, was it worth what I paid for it?
Something earns the label of “the best” when I determine that the majority of our crew used it regularly (or fought over it), they didn’t have to work too hard to make it “do something”, it lasted at least a month, and was awarded my overly subjective score of “it was definitely worth it”. Most, if not all of these items can be found on Chewy or Amazon, and we find a lot of them randomly at HomeGoods stores.
The following list is in no particular order:
JW Pet Hol-ee Roller Dog Toy – all sizes
Do our Frenchies use it? Heck yes! Even the tiniest 4-week old puppy LOVES this ball. The bonus is that it is easy for our 3-year-old to fling it far enough to play fetch with the team!
What does it do? This ball is super bouncy, really durable, and easy to carry
How long did it last? We have had our OG Hol-ee Roller size medium for more than 7 years
Was it worth the $7 we paid? Definitely. It’s a deal at 3x the price.
GoDog Plushie – All shapes and sizes
Do our Frenchies use it? Sure do! I love that they are lightly stuffed which discourages de-fluffing.
What does it do? These plushy toys squeak and/or crinkle depending on style are durable and floppy which will play right into the need to thrash some dogs have.
How long did it last? We have a few Frenchies that like to chew off the spikes and nostrils of this dragon, but that doesn’t impact the toy in a material way. I have one of these that is going on 6 months old.
Was it worth the $10 we paid? Definitely. You can get them at a steal at Home Goods.
BamBone Plus Easy Grip
Do our Frenchies use it? Our crew will absolutely fight over these they love them so much.
What does it do? Like any good chew bone, it keeps them busy and wears them out mentally and physically
How long did it last? These last our crews for about a month. We do not have any nervous or overly aggressive chewers, but at this price point, you could feel ok going through a couple a month.
Was it worth the $3-5 we paid? Yep. You can get them at a deep discount at Home Goods or on Amazon.
WestPaw Zogoflex-Bumi
Do our Frenchies use it? So much.
What does it do? You can play tug with it, they can chew it, and you can fling it for an unpredictable game of fetch
How long did it last? We have one that we bought 8 years ago and has lasted through an Aussie, English Bulldog, and all the Frenchies and for 5 of those years our EBD was an incessant chewer.
Was it worth the $20 we paid? You better believe it.
Lastly, I want to slide in here and champion the BarkBox subscription. We have been subscribers to BarkBox for a while now and can vouch for the value it brings. Their toys are durable enough unless you have a de-fluffer, then the toy replenishment will last about a couple of weeks. Here are a couple of things we love about BarkBox:
Convenience - never run short on toys or treats
Entertainment - Most of their toys are multifaceted; they have crinkles and squeaks or plush to destroy and find a spiny ball as a second-life toy.
Treats - we always need more treats, and their treats are nearly always winners
Customer Service - It’s the best
One time we ordered a specially themed box and they sent the wrong one. Before I could think to email them about it, they reached out, apologized, and shipped out the correct one allowing us to keep the incorrect one.
Anytime our dogs don’t like something they sent, be it a treat or toy, they make it right and send something else. No questions asked. They note the account and don’t send anything similar again. (Our dogs don’t like multi-piece toys like the crinkle basket of angry apples we got in one box. They never sent another multi-piece toy again!)
Whenever we hit on something new that we think you should know about, I’ll update this article and notify our subscribers, but this is a core list of our must-have toys for our french bulldogs and has been pretty much the same for years. Hope this helps cut through the noise of canine entertainment devices and lets you allocate your funds to more important things like t-shirts with Frenchies on them!
